SPACE: The final frontier!

Most of you may or may not have known...I have spent most of 2009 volunteering my time at Space Studio and Hal Samples Gallery!  I have learned a lot about Deep Ellum, people there, working with others, solving problems, praying & talking to God more....and just BEING.

It all started with Wire Bending with George Fowler...and led up to making a GIANT SQUID with Daniel Perez.  I've met some remarkable artists and have swept, mopped & shined over 2000 sq ft of hardwood floors. :)  I enjoyed working with the team there...and am sad to see the doors closing...HOWEVER, this does not mean the creative doors are closing.

I know that wherever we artists go....our craft goes with us. :)  Wherever Hal & Cash go next....we will still get to share in the wonderment & amazement of his talent and treasure within! :) I'm thankful to have spent some great time up there and learned so much!

Thanks to all the folks of Deep Ellum and beyond.  Thanks to Hal, Stacey & Cash...for just being themselves and being passionate.  I have had a blast...and look forward to what 2010 holds for all of us!

Take care,
Love you!

Jen

PS The send off show for SPACE starts at 7pm tonite with several musical guests!  Robert Jones will be there releasing their new album (which has to be fantastic)...and of course, CASH will be there!

See you in SPACE!

7pm til about 11pm.

Here are the tentacles of the giant squid........ah, the FUN we had!!!!!!

Giving back!

I've been through many rough spots in life....and because I have - I have the ability to reach out in some instances to give back to those going through struggles...and encourage them.

One of the ways I wanted to give back this year was with the Singles Parents in my life. I was involved for several years in a singles' ministry at my church and in that time I appreciated all the wonderful single mothers and dads I met over that time.

We can only guess their struggles unless you ARE a single parent. My mom was a single parent for a time...and I can't imagine the weight that comes with that both finanicially and emotionally!

This year my goal was to bless as many single parents as I could in a certain amount of time over the holidays knowing that most likely a lot of us would be struggling financially and a lot of things would be cut out of our lives, maybe even nice photos.

So, I was able to devote some time to this project and had a good response. I'm glad I could be there for the families and capture their smiles and more. Thank you for being there to recieve this blessing. Sometimes we don't accept blessings out of pride, but I have to say the receptiveness was great. I'm glad I could help!
Until next time, i'll see you! :)

Love Jen
Merry Christmas and Have a safe, prosperous new year!
Don't walk into 2010 with a 2009 attitude.

New Season....New Changes...and most....come from within!

I'm excited to be moving forward!
I can't tell you how blessed I feel to have amazing friends that I'm getting to know over lots of time.  I'm blessed by new friends...and just by awesome people who make a difference.

I'm in this somewhat difficult process of change & revamping & thinking.  I know it starts from within.  I have to VALUE myself before I can put value to what I do as a business.  It may be easier for those out there, but not me.  Coming from a place of lack of value...and having to re-think my value and come to ACCEPT my value...has been difficult.  I'm still meandering through the process!  :)

What I am truly excited for is what will happen in my life in 2010.  I have only seen glimpses of what could be...but taking the steps from A to G is where i'm at!  I have to re-think and re-do almost everything!  Who am I?  What am I about?  What am I trying to say?  These are the questions I have to ask myself...being MORE than who I am...and communicating this effectively...AND simply. :)

I'm having a great day because I turned away a possible NEGATIVE path which would have had me moping or in tears saying "woe is me" or any other negative verbage I would have said about myself.  I had to stop myself and literally turn off the website I was looking at in order to change my attitude.  Change is going to become easier as I recognize it!  There is something about being AWARE of what we deal with.  When you are AWARE, you can call it out for what it is and move on in a positive manner.

Dear friends, If some of you have felt a little neglected or left out...please don't feel that way.  I have been focusing all my energies on some small projects AND mental work into my new website.  I cannot share this with most of you....because of my own reasons, however, when the time is right - I will share it with the whole world. Just know, you helped me get here. :)  Thank you!

Here I am with open hands, mind & heart to recieve instruction, wisdom, understanding and guidance.  2010 is going to mark a new year of change for me, growth, propserity, light and authority. :)
I encourage you, find your path.
and then, walk it.

Where does my work show up? :)

I've gotten to be a part of a lot of kewl things over this last year!  I mean! WOW!  What a year 2009 was...I can only imagine as I break through the barriers what 2010 holds for me.

I have to say I have learned so much "on the job"...that it has been amazing.  I've learned who I can learn from and where I needed to be at the right time.  I learned about putting myself out there without a blanket of security.  My only security was knowing that God had placed me somewhere.

I have had my share of peace & joy this year...as well as great TRIALS and inner-turmoils!  I've had my inner-self examined and prodded...and I've had my outer-self poked & prodded.  I'm beginning to grasp what it means to believe the best about myself...and what i'm called to do.  I'm on the verge of still breaking through to the next level of abundance - not of money, but of true peace and love continuing in GREATER measures than ever before.

I want to have what I say. Say what I mean.  And mean what I say.

Ever wonder where my work shows up? Me too! Sometimes I work very hard on a project...and the client doesn't follow through with their goal or dream.  I stop and think...wow, what happened?  But I have some that follow through, become their own realities...and I get to be a part of their lives in photograph.

Here are some examples of where my work shows up...and I can vouch for these people and their businesses. Great work, yes!

I have been spending about 5 session with Jandy the life coach.  The things we dug out were more than enough for me to work on for a long time!  In order to be truly successful and at peace...we ALL need help to break through sometimes.  She has been that tool to help me.  I thank her and I thank God that I'm going to new places for 2010! :)  This is her website and new headshot. :)
In addition to her website...She has put out her first CD called "Beliefs Boundaries & Balance"

This is available in many places now...and if you go to Covenant Church - u will see it on the rack!  Look, there is her new headshot, my photo, her photo.  Itz the beginning of awesomeness!

NEXT UP!
Mike Leonard Insurance Agency!

A very passionate man of his word, eager to sow into fellow believers businesses.  He and his team are eager to help YOU with your insurance needs.  I met them through the Covenant Business Network and helped them with a few small projects.  Namely being their property shots and headshot for the team.  I have found that every project is so different - yet I try and get the same awesome result for them.
Here are their headshots....

Give them a call if you have any needs, they are willing to work with you!

Well, that is a start for tonite! I just wanted to share partially what has been going on this year for me.  I know this is only a beginning...and I BELIEVE that 2010 is going to be so unique, so powerful, otherwise I wouldn't be fighting right now against all odds, and against ANY negativity!  I will choose to focus on the good...and what is TRUE!  Look forward to seeing you in 2010.

Merry Christmas!
and
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

Ever been so wired after a huge event, you stay up til 430am? :)

I have to tell you - as long as a day it was yesterday...i was SO WIRED when i got home we didn't go to bed until after 4am!  I woke up at nearly 1pm to discover I am loved.  I'm just so thankful that God has made this time for me of blessing people...having fun...laughing...I have never smiled & laughed as much as last nite.  I have to admit, i'm still not great about wrangling people to take photos.  I was in a room that was pretty awesome!  I had my own little space...I could hear the music, see the people...and it was great!

The backdrop was an inspiration from the It's a Grind deco that was already working! They had snowflakes and glimmery things hanging from the ceiling.  It was really sparkly!  This is the test shot I had amy take before we were officially open!  I was wondering how the window behind us would affect the photo - but it didn't do much except ADD to the sparklyness!  The reflection of the umbrella in some of the photos was pretty cool!  I did 1 light at a 45 degree stance and the other off to the side because of wiring!  I didn't take an extension cord, but it STILL turned out great.

It was a great room, but still tricky to position everything!  This is a corner shot to give you an idea...everything was wall to wall packed!  We moved at least 3 of the big chairs out and the little tables were moved to the other side too.  I kept one chair in the corner for my stuff and to hide my stuff! :)

To add to the fun...I had nabbed giant snowflakes at the dollar store...They ended up just being added props for those that wanted to pose with snowflakes!!!!  Here, amanda shows us how to WORK IT! ahahah!  I also had grabbed a door streamer and it works SO well !  I'm glad I bought it after all!!!!  No backdrop fabric....just the bare walls & windows...and floor!  I think it worked perfect!!!!

Carolyn was being a rebel and was the only one who requested to not be captured w/ the sparklies!  In turn, I took her request and gave her this.  However, it took about 8 shots to get here...because as we all know...PHOTOGRAPHERS make the worst critics of themselves!  However, she was very happy with this...and in turn...I gave her this lovely edited version as well!!!

I think she looks fab...and represents herself well!
After the nite was ending and the last song was sung....those that go to the Shanty requested a group photo!  This is where a wide-angle would have been SO wonderful, but what i opted for was bringing the camera high over my head...and "guessing".  Actually, you would be surprised how great this can work! While this photos is not perfect and everyone is not lit...for who these people are and what they represent, they really dont' care! They love it anyways! Isn't that fab? :)

I think thatz pretty darn good for ONE light...and the poor 2nd light was not at a good angle to help!  (it was to the side for side lighting!) I told them to squiiiiiiiiish in and then "guessed" my way into this shot.  I love being creative - it just means we work with what we have and make something amazing out of it. :)
Here is another of my favs of the nite!
This lovely couple (and friend) were having fun...and she did this move where it was like she was punching his beard...i told her to do it again...and this is what we got!  I LOVE IT and then i edited for more of a fun feel too. :)  (I love lightroom btw)
Here ya go!

and here is what happened after my preset was applied!  way fun!

Oh yes and ONE MORE THING to add to the fantastic nite!!!! Lenny's New Legs was performing....and the group had already joked about an album cover....so they came to my booth to say hi and "take a band photo".  What started up as a joke...really turned out great. :)  Especially with sparkles & snowflakes!  You be the judge...this is exactly what they were going for!  And, then i edited it with a lovely preset too.
BEFORE:

AFTER:

And then we have JENICE!!!!!!!!! Yet another photographer....who does amazing things...but when it comes to being in front of the camera........this is a different story!!!!!  However, I feel that her "backdrop" for the evening fit her more than sparkles or light fixtures. :)  It was a painting at It's a Grind! :)  Here is the results of HER photos. :)  I am posting TWO of them....the 2nd one is her fighting off all of her face! LOL :)
I love ya Jenice!

OH WAIT, I can't end it yet! I have to show you the ArtLoveMagic LOVE lollipop i also made as a prop...but was going to hang on the backdrop.  It works for what it was...and what it is.!!! A wire hanger with tinsel wrapped around it! :) Feel the love!!!!!!!!! :) Made for a great prop that nite. :)
Here you go:

Thank you ART LOVE MAGIC!!!!!!! It was a blast!
and thanks to everyone who came out & took pictures and enjoyed the event.  Look forward to more awesome things coming from ALM. :)

Bring the LOVE! Bring the Sparkle!

It doesn't take the holiday season to light me up like a christmas tree! hahah!
I'm always so excited for any opportunity to take photos...that I just can't wait to get going on the photo booth tomorrow nite!  I've been working on the backdrop today...and really looking forward to setting it up.  I don't really have an "end picture" as to what it will look like, but i'm sure ready to find out!  This is the best part!  Putting dreams into action! YEA!!!!

The idea came to me as I was sitting in the coffee shop last Saturday.  I had hung 3 pieces of artwork...and talked about what i could or would bring to do the photos.  What have i done before? What has everyone ELSE done before? I hate copying people!  I actually dislike when ppl copy me too!  However, I'm trying to see that as a flattery...AND remembering that most everything done in photography has been done.  I just look at it this way...I'm doing it...without stealing someone else's idea purposely!  I think it is just a courtesy! :)  Itz ok to be inspired by others, but don't be a clone! :)  (just my thoughts!)

I'm so thankful for the sphere that God has given me.  It is something that can't be stolen by anyone...and no matter how much i would try to struggle and try and force things to happen, God is so good and kind to me that when I fail and mess up - he keeps my head on straight!  He knows the assignments he has for me...and they are not yours, they are mine.  I could be sent to Iowa ...and u are not. hahaha!  It has been a real struggle for me in the last few months to keep the faith, keep my head up and keep moving.  But I have moved past!  Accepting MY future is what I need. Not someone else's! :)  I'm so thankful to be created just as me...so I could do what I'm meant to!

I know that photography is only one aspect of my calling...there is so much more.

I can't wait to reveal the new website...the deeper meaning behind my passions!  I'm so excited for 2010.

I hope YOU are ready for it....because itz going to ROCK!

If you have not started following your dream, get a move on - it is waiting for you!!!!

Love Jen

WHAT IS Rarmai?????

I'm sure people are wondering...what is this funky word?

(((Maybe you have googled???  well, what it says it is (which isn't much)...is not where i got it. lol.)))
Well, stay tuned - because in 2010 I'm going to tell you the story and reveal the depths of this word...and the meaning behind it. Letz just say...it has priorities and descriptions and words and such a deep meaning that took me 3 days to come up with. Itz not about me. Matter of fact I started with the idea that it was about me, but then I ended up tossing that out. Itz totally about something bigger than me. :)

Stay tuned for 2010's big reveal. I can't wait to launch the new website and learn so much more about my craft, my passion and people. :)
Until next time.

FRIDAY!!!! December 11th!!!!!! WOW, itz almost here!

I can't believe the week is already here!
I had my artwork hung in It's a Grind saturday...and i have to tell you...these pieces are SPECIAL. They are never-before-seen creations that I put together for this show. I even printed on METALLIC paper to enhance the already awesomeness of them. They are affordable and especially if you know someone who appreciates ART like I do and so many others- it would make a great great unique gift for someone's home! :)

Right now i'm in the planning stages of the photography booth at the event...
I'm hoping for sparkles...of some sort. :)

We'll see how this goes, I have a sketch and now itz a matter of bringing it to life! :) I can't wait to share this with everyone. The idea simply came from It's a Grind and their already awesome deco. :)
Hope to see you out there! Grab some coffee....take a seat...listen to live music, come get some photos...and see some live artists at their craft. :)
Itz a hop and skip away from Cafe Brazil - so if you get lost? Just park in the lot behind CB - pay $2...and walk over to Indiana - It's a Grind is facing the train tracks! If you get lost? Ask someone nearby for directions...should be ok to find! (you will not see it on Indiana) :)
Much love to you, see you soon!
Jen

AMAZING! :)

I have to say I was amazed this Saturday by 2 Ukrainian teens that ROCKED their very own photo shoot like no other.  Their mom was equally gorgeous and it was a blast hanging with them in the CRAZEE wind!  I wanted to quickly share some of the images that came out of this.  I tend to use lightroom to edit, but also wanted to give photoshop a quick looksie.  :)  So out of all the playing...here are some of my favs!  I hope you enjoy them and get inspired to CREATE and play with your images! :)

New Changes for 2010!!!

I was talking with my mother this weekend...and we kinda laffed about one aspect of our lives...CHANGE.  I had moved a lot when I was a kid...and now that i'm older and "settled down"...i find myself getting ancy for change and not keeping the usual around for very long.

Long story short - when you are in business for yourself and just starting out...you tend to be EVERYTHING!  Your web designer, accountant, business-minded, marketing and so on and so on.

Well, after many weeks and months of being frustrated with my website (self-designed) I had started making subtle changes to simplify and make my vision more visible!  For those that know me, sometimes I'm really good at talking about it and sometimes I'm not.  I'm definitely not good at selling myself right now.  But my goal was to update my website to bring a more professional look AND a better way to communicate my vision!  I'm way too excited to see what 2010 brings.

For now, EXPECT a great big change to www.rarmai.com before 2010 gets here!
You will LOVE it! And i hope to get a LOT of feedback!!!!

To my readers, clients, friends & family...
thank you for your prayers!

Ah the glorious times to chill before each shoot! It helps to just rest...clear my mind...and bring to light any ideas...creativeness...or whatever i need to work my next job. :)  All 3 shoots this weekend will be different....i'm definitely looking forward to having FUN. :)

Life to be lived to the fullest!!!!

A friend of mine is currently in ICU...and is fighting for his life.  There are a lot of things going on inside of him...but one thing remains constant...our love for him and our prayers for him!

We love you Jerald!
These are a couple of photos that were dear to me...as I remembered just how long I've known him....:)

New Years 2006

and a headshot I did of him while we were all in the singles ministry together!  I love him!
Headshot 2008

I have to say...in this respect I appreciate photos and photography more and more...because we never know when we want to remember our friends or family gone...or sick, in the hospital and we want to see their smiling face - even though they are not smiling now.

Hope is always a great thing...and I hope that Jerald (JPOP) opens his eyes soon...to see just how much God loves him and how much we love him!

Get well soon JPOP!
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!!!
